An Overview of Emergency First Aid at Work
-
The Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) is designed for individuals designated as first aiders in low-risk environments, such as offices, shops, or small classrooms. It is also ideal for organisations where a health and safety assessment identifies that a full three-day qualification isn't necessary.
This one-day course is essential for:
Small business employees needing to meet legal HSE requirements.
Self-employed contractors working on-site.
Support staff assisting a Lead First Aider in higher-risk settings.
It provides the vital skills to manage casualties until professional medical help arrives.
-
Generally, you should:
Choose Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) if you work in a low-risk setting like a small office or shop with fewer than 50 people. This one-day course covers life-saving basics like CPR and choking.
Choose First Aid at Work (FAW) if you are in a higher-risk environment like construction or manufacturing, or if your workplace has over 50 employees. This three-day course is more advanced, teaching you to manage major trauma, fractures, and medical conditions like heart attacks or strokes.
